HI
Just a quick post, to seek reassurance. My admirals reserve has been in the FV for 10 days now and been kept at 20C for the duration. OG 1040. fermenation started well and good rocky head produced. I've still got a few bubbles on the surface and over the last few 7 days SG has fallen from 1020 to tonights reading of 1012 (second night in a row of 1012). I have a temp probe for external and just above the brew room temp is 20.1C and just above brew is 20.6 (it is normally a little higher just abve brew during the fermentation. So everything seems to be going well. As this is my first time brewing kit the FV seems to be much longer than it says on the instructions (4-6 days) was planning to keg at weekend if no purther drop in SG. Any advice, or comments would be appreciated. Oh and I can't believe how absorbing brewing is....but that is a good thing

Welcome to the fun
I know what you mean, I spent many evenings watching the bubbler on my first batch

......and still do
I've had some kits go really quick and some take much longer than the instructions say. Some of it's down to temperature and how quickly the yeast gets going. I now tend to leave my brews for around 2 weeks in the FV. It makes sure it's fully fermented and gives the yeast time to settle to the bottom.

Thanks for the reply, I appreicate the advice and hpefully by the weekend I'll have it in the keg....any idea of what the FG of this kit should be. I made it to 40 pints as per instruction. I was thinking it should be about 1010

I don't know what the Fg is meant to be, but 1.012 seems pretty good to me. Many times I have struggled to get a kit down to that value. If it doesn't move anymore, I would consider it done. As far as the ABV goes, you're looking at 3.6% as compared to 3.9%, which seems fine to me

Hi,
If its like the other Woodfordes and I'm sure it is then 1012 is a good level to get it at. Get it kegged this weekend and enjoy within a few weeks!

I started an Admirals Reserve just before new year (it was my 1st brew too!). I kegged at 1011 and it took ALOT of yeast rousing to get that down from 1012!! thinking about it, I should have just kegged at 1012 because its dropped further during conditioning (now at 1010). Its been conditioning for 2 weeks now and isn't quite clear but another week.... Enjoy!

I brewed this as my first kit in time (just!) for Xmas - I kegged at 1013 and there was no sign of it being too lively in the keg (I primed with 80g of table sugar in 100ml).
I started drinking within 2 weeks (it was Xmas!) and it was a nice pint, but it got better and clearer after another 2-3 weeks.
Twill soon be gone!
