Brupaks Wheat beer

Post by Russ » Mon Mar 12, 2007 8:19 pm

I've got this in the FV now and it's nearly finished fermenting ( my first brew with no sticking!! :D )

I had a sneaky taste and to be honest I'm a bit disapointed. Not much flavour, could do with something......possibly better when it's been carbonated but....

I've read somewhere about adding some marmalade is sometimes done with wheatbeers. I was thinking of syphoning some of the beer out (3-4 pints?) and mixing with a couple of tablespoons of marmalade (and maybe some hops?)boiling it then putting back in the fermentor.

Any Ideas if this sound OK and if so what about quanties of marmalade and hops (I have some Styrian Goldings)

Cheers

I wouldn't worry yet - I've not done this exact kit (though I think that I'll try it next) but I have made the Brupaks, Brewers Choice Weissbier. That was as dull as ditchwater when had fermented, but great with the high carbonation associated with the style.

The marmalade thing sounds interesting - I'd probably just boil up enough to do a few bottles initially, rather than the whole lot... you get to see how the original recipe works out and to try something different.

I also get to find out whether the kit is worth trying.

Russ

Give it time, a good wheat beer does need maturing for a couple of months to bring out the flavour and body. Unfortunately this one just can't be rushed. I have always found that for some reason wheat beers improve better in bottles.

Ok

Thanks for the replies

Think I'll tinker around with this one, perhaps a gallon with marmalade, another with hops+ marmalde and the rest bottled as it is......some to be drunk young, some to be saved for summer when it should be matured....that shoud cover it :?
