Got up early this morning to check the hydro as about 36 hours had past, but still no movement!

Plan b has been put into action, so only time will tell now :)

Ok, I've clearly reverted back to an impatient newbie, but having never used Safale 04 before, I don't know how long it takes to get going?

I pitched it about 14 hours ago, and there is no sign of life as yet :|

It's now well over 24 hours Since I pitched the rescue yeast (dry) and still no life whatsoever.

I checked the SG and wort temp this morning and it was bang on 20C and the hydrometer is now reading exactly 1022.

Do I assume that there is nothing left to ferment?

Should I have got the yeast going before pitching?

Should I just give up and bottle what I've got?

Hi Mate

yeast will do its thing whther pitched dry or rehydrated. I suspect your fermentation has finised. What did it taste like in the trial jar?

Maybe a short brew length means a high FG? My failed stout was brewed to 18 litres and it finished bang on 1020. No amount of stiring or yeast nutrient (which I refuse to use now) budged it!

Maybe leave it until the weekend / maybe into next week and take a reading? Even if it still hasnt moved, more yeast will have dropped out and lessen the possibility of bottle bombs!

Cheers.

HAHA

After actually bothering to read the kit instructons properly, 9 days after starting the brew off, I see that I should have been aiming for 1020 and not the 1014 that I had in my head!!

At least it proves that I am 100% male and also a dumbass

All safely bottled now at just under 6% ABV, so hopefully should end up with something 6.3% - 6.5% ABV :)

Another long wait begins :) :( :)

Nice one =D> You'll have to get summat else on so you can keep your mitts off it until its fit to drink.
Monkeybrew wrote: Dunc, I see that you are drinking Almondbury Old, what shop bought ale would you compare it to?
Tricky one - its definitely 'Wychwoody' in character but not as rich as Hobgoblin - the flavour is actually closer to Goliath I'd say but darker and maltier - a cross between the two. Very moreish =P~

Don't worry, I shall be stashing the majority of it into one of my conditioning crates in the garage. I bottled a couple of litres into 330ml glass tasters for quality control along the way

Cheers for the info about the Almondbury, it will defo be on my to do list.

I have tried my second taster bottle of this brew at nearly 4 weeks in the bottle and the transformation from the 2 week taster is very encouraging :)

It's clearing gradually and has started to develop some nice flavour already.

At 2 weeks it tasted of virtually nothing and was very dissapointing, but I can imagine that by the Autumn it will be very special 8)
