The Muntons Stick - is it the yeast?
Re: The Muntons Stick - is it the yeast?
Aeration on my part was done by dropping the water from a height, and then giving it the thrashing of its young life with my sterilised whisk - and that was for the whole of Jessie j's 'Do It Like a Dude' - so quite a bit of thrashing!
Re: The Muntons Stick - is it the yeast?
I have had sluggish ferments on occasion with the two can kits but never with Coopers - and I suspect its the manufacturer providing a piddly 6 gram packet of yeast to process 3kg of malt extract that's the root cause of a lot of the sticking personally. These days I always use either S-04, Nottingham or two sachets of the muntons kit yeast now with a dollop of the Youngs yeast nutrient, no more stuck ones.
Fermenting: nowt
Conditioning: Headcracker, Brewmaker Northumberland Brown, Brewmaker Export Bitter
Drinking: Coopers Euro Lager, Coopers Dark Ale, Hambleton Bard Amber Export, Coopers Aussie Pale Ale, Almondbury Old, Coopers Stout, Wherry w/Chinook
Planning: BOTW 80/-

Re: The Muntons Stick - is it the yeast?
Wouldn't touch them. I've had nothing but trouble with them, despite vigorous aerating, using double sachets of yeast etc.. And the one kit that did ferment out properly tasted nowt special anyway. I've had no problems with a variety of 1 can kits and IMO they are just not worth the hassle and extra expense. A 1 can kit with spraymalt instead of glucose is a far better investment, gives a better end product and is almost guaranteed to work unless you're a complete nooby.
