TT Landlord...any kits taste similar?
TT Landlord...any kits taste similar?
I havent brewed for a while and fancy a nice pale ale - having searched the forum there appears to be some good Landlord clones produced by the all-grainers, I was just wondering if you can fanny about with any of the bog-standard kits and get something reasonably close.
Thanks in anticipation

You might get a few pointers from this.

You could try the Coopers English Bitter kit as a starting point maybe?

Thanks for the prompt replies chaps. Had a look at the link Paddy & it looks on the button but the all-grain stuff is something I can only aspire to (lazy b*gger), at the mo anyway!
By general consensus it would appear tinkering with a Coopers kit may get me what I require.
cheers

True, but sometimes looking at an extract/AG recipe will give you some pointers on how you can tweak a kit with hops and specialty malts.
Good luck with it.

That wouldn't, but Cooper's Real Ale with a bit of tinkering would get you closer.Paddy Bubbles wrote:You might get a few pointers from this.

Re: TT Landlord...any kits taste similar?
Graham Wheelers book has a recipe for TT landlord and there is an extract version which shouldn't be a great deal harder than a kit. It's got Styrian Goldings in it as the flavour hop if you just wanted to tweak a kit.

Fair enough, I've never tried the Real Ale kit.Bayerd wrote:That wouldn't, but Cooper's Real Ale with a bit of tinkering would get you closer.
But, the English Bitter kit is already hopped with Goldings, which is why I thought it might be a good starting point. You might be a bit off on colour with the EB kit, but you might get pretty close on flavour. Or try both!

Styrian Goldings are not a variety of Goldings, they are actually a variety of Fuggles.Paddy Bubbles wrote:Fair enough, I've never tried the Real Ale kit.Bayerd wrote:That wouldn't, but Cooper's Real Ale with a bit of tinkering would get you closer.

You should try the Brupaks 'micro-brewery' range. They produce a kit called 'Fixby Gold Biter' this is likened to Timothy Taylor. I have brewed it myself and I must admit it is one of my best brews yet. Brupaks kits seem to do what they say on the tin.
Re: TT Landlord...any kits taste similar?
mmm..lots of advice from knowledgable chaps..thanks again. I know my local HB shop has Fixbys Gold in stock so will pop in tomorrow - more fun than ordering online! I have 2 jars of Holland & barrett malt extract(454g each) & a 640g jar of Asda golden syrup(bought originally for a brewferm tin) from my old stock, I take it I wouldnt need to utilise these as its a 2 can kit(always added my own fermentables before). Would anyone suggest adding any of these to the brew or am I messing with something that doesnt need it?
Re: TT Landlord...any kits taste similar?
Hi I'd suggest, (if you went for Fixby Gold), to make it up as per the kit instructions. It comes with teabags of hop pellets and grains - to restore flavour from that lost in producing the malt extract. You can always alter the kit on the next brew - to modify it to your taste - if it requires. I think you'll be pleasently suprised.

That should be pretty close to begin with then.Paddy Bubbles wrote:
