Thoughts on next few kits ....

Post by suls » Fri Dec 02, 2011 1:06 pm

Hi All

Another kit reccomendation thread I'm afriad, have searched through the old ones abit but think I have already covered most of the normal favs.

Looking to build up to a decent rolling stock / stop drinking beer younger than it should be so another 4 kits should get me to the point where I have 3 conies, 1 PB and 144 bottles filled :D

Currently conditioning APA, IPA, Smugglers ale and brewing a "ditch's Stout", so thinking a dark ale maybe handy (any others rather than the coopers I've already done spring to mind?) and a St peters Ruby Red sounds like a good shout as well.

Any one got any further thoughts

Previous brews listed below, of which I enjoyed the Ditches Stout, IPA and Wherry the most.

Happy to revisit some of the below but it is always nice to try something new.

Cheers suls

I've had some good results with Hamilton Bards dry stuff. Just got some of their amber ale on. The hop sachet burst during a house move so I boiled some Northern Brewer and steeped some First alpha instead. It's starting to taste quite good.

I've also dry hopped a summer ale kit from Burton Bridge with some of the left over First Alpha. That's starting to taste pretty good too.

As for Woodfordes kits, I've never had a bad one from them. The other half doesn't like dark ales, but she wolfed down the Norfolk Nog so I barely got a look in. I think I'll put another one on soon.. and a Wherry, been a while since I've done one of those.

Two instantly spring to mind, brupaks fixby gold is a cracker and in place o the st peters ruby which is a tad underwhelming, do the golden ale instead.

I'll get me thinking head on now see if there's anything else.....

Actually, after reading your list I reckon you may want to consider tweaking some kits with some mal and hops.

A couple of dark ales I would recommend are the Woodfordes Nog and the Brupaks Scamodden Ale.

Thanks for all the responses guys, good to have a couple of different ones to go at,
Have ordered a couple of above, and put a couple on the list for next time (placed the order on Friday)

As MrMojorisin suggests I don't think I'm too far off starting to modify my kits a bit more soon, but I'll play it safe for the next couple at least...

Thanks again suls
