Tim Taylor Landlord Clone

Post by J_P » Mon Apr 30, 2007 11:44 pm

Hi All

I am a big fan of Tim Taylors Landlord and wondered if there was anyway I could reproduce this with a tweaked kit. As a self confessed "Hop Head" I reckon it's all in the hops and have found out from one source it's made from indeterminate quantities of Styrian Goldings, Fuggles and Goldings.

Has anyone found anything that comes close to the hop aroma of this beer? Is it something a newbie could do to a standard kit?

Any advice would be brilliant

Cheers

JP

I realise i'm 5 yrs late to this, but i've been thinking exactly the same thing.
Is it possible to 'copy' Landlord using a kit?
Anyone got any ideas?

Hi pcrofts27

Why not do an Extract brew its not much harder than a kit. And then you will be able to use an Extract TTL recipe.
Go to the Extract forum and search TTL.

Extract is easy as long as you've got a big enough pot for the boil.

Alternatively Coopers Real Ale could be a good base kit, and you could steep some Fuggles and Styrian Goldings to make a hop tea.

I've got a BIAB GW TTL clone in the bottle at the moment and plan on trying one later, so will report back.

If you can get yourself to Cheltenham, the local homebrew shop Pops do their own "Foresters" range of kits, their "Golden Citrus Blast" is very close to Landlord. I had a pint of Landlord in the local then came back and had a pint of my homebrew, and can confirm they are close (dare I say that the Citrus Blast is better ??!!)

He's hoping to start selling these kits on the Internet / eBay but I've not seen them yet. I've just done another of these kits, the "Woodland Secret", which is very much like Doom Bar :D

thanks,

The Foresters kit sounds good, but being in Sheffield, Cheltenham's a bit of a distance to get one. If they start selling online i'll definitely try it though.

How big a pot do you need for extract? and will it fit on standard gas hob for boiling?
I've tweaked a few kits so trying extract seems like a good way to go.

Hi Paul
Its very doable on a stove with the biggest pot in your kitchen.
I think its time for you to have a look at the Extract page. There are recipes for TTL there.

I sampled a 3 week old bottle of my BIAB GW TTL clone brew on Sunday, and It's coming along nicely on flavour, it just lacks body, but that's my fault for missing my OG by 4 points, then subsequently fermenting down to 1.006!

Graham Wheelers book has a recipe for an extract version too, but as Normski points out, there are probably plenty of tweaked versions in the Extract forum :)
