I checked my brewing spreadsheet last night, and the NOG that I brewed in early 2011, was to 21L and I had recorded an OG of 1.042 and an FG of 1.015.

Re: Woodford's Nog
Mine started at 1043 and finished around 1015, but I had brewed it to 20L so would expect a slightly higher FG, even so the ABV was lower than I expected it to be.
The taste is lovely, but I think it does need a fair while in the bottle to condition properly.
I also cant get the yeast to solidify on the bottom of the bottle, so I think it really needs to be in the bottle for longer than most beers do.
The beer is crystal clear, but it is hard to get it out of the bottle perfectly clean without uber-careful pouring. Mine has been in the bottle for 2 weeks warm plus 8 weeks cold conditioning so far.
I would definitely do it again though as it is lovely.

Re: Woodford's Nog
The FG on mine ended up at 1.013, so that makes it 3.8%.
I kegged it all 3 days ago and put isinglass finings in the first two kegs, leaving the 3rd as-is. Tried it yesterday (one of the kegs with finings), and it's almost crystal clear and tastes pretty good too - wonderfully malty. I'm going to struggle to keep off this and let it condition in the way I'm sure would benefit it. Maybe I'll just put the 3rd keg aside and try to forget about it.
Although this has come out a fair bit short of the 4.5% it states on the box, I'm perfectly happy with 3.8% as long as it tastes good.

Re: Woodford's Nog
Mine is definitely improving as the weeks tick by.
Shame really, as there is barely any left now though....!
I would suggest you leave it at least 6 weeks in the cold after carbing up (if you can...!), as that is when mine seemed to 'come together' in terms of flavour.
Obviously you wil need a few tastings though to see how it is improving along the way.

I'll definitely keep the 3rd keg out of the way, with a 'do not disturb' sign on it. Good job I did a double batch.Maysie wrote:I would suggest you leave it at least 6 weeks
