well after 60 hrs I've got this:

Image

looks like the yeast never got started let alone stuck!

I'm going to rouse what's at the bottom and if there'e no change in a day I'll add Safale 04 and yeast vit.

Is this ok?

Has the gravity changed at all since pitching?

What's the temperature being kept at? What was the temperature when you pitched the yeast?

Safale and Yeast-Vit should be belt and braces for a re-pitch.

blimey! I didn't think to check the gravity as tyhere appeared to have been very little action and it had only been a couple of days. Its down to 1017 from 1049 ish i suppose, I didn't take an initial reading.

Its at 20 degrees, it was about 28 i think when I pitched the yeast.

Well I've roused it, I guess I'll just see what happens and learn to trust the hydrometer rather than the size of the foamy yeast head. when I did give it a gentle stir, there was small brown specks of yeast[?] on the paddle, but no big white lump cake at the bottom.

How come the yeast haed was so small? and lasted no time at all?

well I roused it: nothing

I added Safale 04 and yeast vit: nothing

Guess its done all it gonna do. finished on 1016. I made this kit to 20L w/ 1Kg spraymalt and added hops.

think I'll get much out of it alcohol wise? I didn't get an initial reaading as with all the bubbles around it made it v difficult to read! any advice gratefully accepted, and also on how to get the best SG (starting Gravity, is that right?) reading.

the plan now is to leave for another week and then stick in KK with priming sugar.

Nice one, cheers DaaB. Ere, it's like having an older brother around, but not one who duffs you up!
