New Limited Edition Festival Kit - Summer Glory

Another new festival kit been released - http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/beerkits/ ... -40pt.html

Not sure how different it is to their existing Summer Ale - Golden Stag, but if anyone gives it a go it would be worth knowing - given the quality of the rest of the range I suspect it will be good

Had an email from Ritchies today, confirming that they will be releasing 2 or 3 seasonal festival kits per year, so keep an eye out for the next one. Hopefully a nice Stout....

Bought this kit today. It contains a packet of dried elderflowers that is not mentioned in any of the adverts I had read before buying kit. Not being a fan of flower beers I will be omitting these from brew.

If would have been good to hear how this turned out from anyone who has tried out this kit. There doesn't appear to be much information out on it.

I bought a couple of boxes of this kit, as I was interested in the elderflower aspect.

Having recently made a double batch of their Golden Stag, and found this to be very nice smelling, but overly bitter and harsh (I'll often been reduced to blending in a bit of wherry to reduce the harshness), and I was worried that this kit might also have the same traits. I did not add the 500g of dextrose supplied with the kit, but added 280g of light spraymalt in the expectation of this reducing the strength and (hopefully) bitterness owing to the residual sweetness from the spraymalt.

I have also been careful with fermentation conditions, and taken on board the recommendations in Chris White and Jamil Zainasheff's book 'Yeast'. I re-hydrated the supplied yeast in 100ml of boiled water cooled down to 40c, pitched at 16c, ramped up to 18.5c after a couple of days of activity. It's now at 20.5c for the diacetyl rest and should be ready for kegging soon. It tastes alright so far (SG currently 1.015), but it's quite bitter, and there's not too much of an elderflower aroma or flavour.

We'll see, though.

Only made the Razorback which I enjoyed, very good.

The Porter was not however, very bitter finish :(
