Stout Yeast

Post by carllancaster1977 » Tue Jun 26, 2007 9:26 am

Please could I have recommedations for a good yeast for a Stout?

Also any good stout kit recommendations?

And are the 3kg kits better than one can kits?

Cheers

ive tried 2 stout kits recently, both are good.

I tried the Youngs Harves Stout and found it very drinkable, even though i drank it green to a large extent (my 3rd brew so i was still a bit impatient)

Ive also just brewed the Coopers Stout, which is great! i used 50/50 Dark Spray malt and glucose, and added a caffitier full of rich carribean coffee to the wort, this gave great coffee flavours initially giving way to a smooth not to bitter aftertaste. The £10 price tag means its a real bargain and one which i already have penciled in for another brew in the near future.

As for the yeasts, both of these have been brewed using the supplied yeast without any problems at all.

Hope this helps

coopers kit is fantastic. i have done it twice with 500g dark spraymalt 500g brewing sugar. the yeast in primary if furious (watch stonch's webcam!! brilliant) however i do leave my stouts longer than my other brews. i leave them for at least three months. it is well worth the wait

I've had a couple of bottles of our Coopers stout, bottled on the 12th. Tis good. Very strong coffee flavour actually. Going to be lovely when it's ready.
