What hops would you guys recommend to use with a coopers lager kit? Also the quantity and at what stage to use them?
Cheers

Saaz would be traditional in a lager - alternatively Tettnang or a Hallertau

if your bottling then you can boil some up and drop the strained water into the Fv from the off, ive done this recently with 12g boiled in about 2l of water that ive rinsed the can with (out the kettle), boiling for 10 mins then add a further 12g and take it off the boil (steeping).

ive yet to taste the effect as the beer is still in fermentation but overall 25g isnt a great deal when used like this.

you can also 'dry hop' them by sticking them in a bag and then putting this into your keg.

ive had mixed results with this but i think the bad time was wrong choice of beer/wrong hop variety.

hope this helps

I'm assuming the extracts sold as kits already contain bittering hops but you could give the beer a nice boost by adding some flavor and aroma hops. Just use any of the traditional lager hops (Saaz, Hallertau, Spalt, etc) and use a 15g addition at mid-boil and another 15g at the end of the boil.

Thanks for the ideas, think i will go with the saaz, got to convince the wife that my lager will be better than her shop bought ones
Cheers.

I've used Saaz hops with a Coopers lager kit. I used around an ounce dry hopped and it gave it a lovely flavour and aroma (it's the same hops as used in Stella). I think next time I would boil some with the wort (tea bag stylee) to get more bittering compounds and dry hop too as the saaz tend to be mainly for aroma.
