Coopers IPA not clearing at all

Post by chris68 » Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:09 am

It has been in the barrel for over a month now and shows no sign of clearing, about 3 weeks ago I added some 2 part finings and they haven't worked, any ideas chaps. It tastes lovely, just wish it would clear.

The coopers Cerveza I have in the barrel for a week is almost clear. Although thinking about it i used a bit of spray malt in the IPA for the secondary.. could this be the difference?

I've had the same problem until recently, http://jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6140,
but after5 weeks or so it really is starting to clear up, and is tasting more and more hoppy every day. HAve patience would be my advice. If it hasn't cleared in a couple of weeks, think again.

I think I got the gravity down to 1010 before moving it into the keg, it was steady for a couple of days at this, the brew never stuck neither did I have any issues with it, till now and the non clearing, I am loathe to test the Gravity due to it having a nice taste, good pressure in the barrel and all else seeming fine, can this be avoided at all?

Cheers for the help again folks

Right, so if I draw some off, test the gravity and hope it is still the same?

I was being thick, I assumed I would have to crack the barel to test the gravity...D'oh!!

So if the gravity is up? Add yeast or a gentle stir as i added sediment when I transferred to the keg?

Ignoring infection the cloudyness is probably being caused by yeast in suspension.

Time, chilling, or another dose of finings will sort it out, hopefully

I struggle with time and drink a cloudy pint

I did a 50:50 split with the spray malt\sugar in an 80 gram mix......... beginners , we're bloody useless

Just checked the gravity is still at 1010, I'll try the fridge method although it has been stored in my garage for a while

mine's just cleared totally today. i started it on 13 June and racked to keg on the 25th June. So its just over 5 weeks since it was racked but 6 since it stopped fermenting.

dunno if that helps at all...
