I would recommend aerating/stirring the wort before adding the yeast but if you have just sprinkled it on in the last few minutes go ahead and give it a good stir anyway, won't do it any harm at all.
Its only after active fermentaion has started (ie when it forms a yeast head) that you don't want to introduce oxygen by stirring etc. Hope this helps

DaaB i take it you consider the lack of aeration as a lesser problem than proper rehydration of the yeast (i guess i would to with dry yeast).DaaB wrote:If you have sprinkled the yeast straight onto the wort, dont stir. If you have rehydrated previously, knock yourself out.
Sorry to be obtuse but

Like the man struggling with his Fs and Ts, you can't say 'fairer than that', im more than willing to accept some good old fashioned emperical evidenceDaaB wrote: I can confirm though that when I have tried to rehydrate the yeast by mixing it straight in to a liquid, the results have either been a failure (it just sits at the bottom and sulks), or no where near as good as sprinkling it over the liquid first (most of it sits at the bottom and sulks).
Sometimes if a lot of foam has been created when mixing it is necessary to fold it in as best as possible before adding the yeast.
