kererra,

I started the same Ole Ale kit on Sunday! Impressed with the 4 tea bags that came with it. 8) Had a look at it this morning and it had foamed right out of the fermenter

What did you make yours up with? I used 1kg of Muntons Dark Spraymalt giving OG 1052. Be interesting to compare notes on the finished product.

Since no one else mentioned it and since i am from/in the Land of Coopers i will put my vote in for the best kit - Coopers Lager.

Why? Low IBU (~20), very pale. Means i can use it as the base for any beer by adding more malt, spec grain, hops and using a good yeast. Very versatile kit this one. I make my dark ales and porters from it as well as APAs etc. Ironically, i have never made a lager from it but then - Life is too short for lagers!

The water up here doesn't necessarily need any treatment as the chlorination is well below what you might find from English suppliers. I would be surprised if the tap water was the problem.

Mysterio is in Glasgow - he might have an opinion on the water quality for the West Coast.

Nice one kererra, I've been very restrained and not touched mine yet (Oooerr!) but glad to here yours is progressing well. I'm going to try to leave it at least 6 weeks before drinking but that assumes the brews currently on tap last me that long
