Porter? Wassat about?
I am currently sitting here drinking a bottle of Bombardier Satanic Mills. I don't know if this is classed as a porter but but its as black as Guinness and has that chocolate / coffee flavour.
They have it on sale in Sainsburys at the moment
.....oh and its damn nice. Just waiting on the TOJ (Turbo Orange Juice).

In my experience porters have been one of the easiest beers to make.
It's dark so you don't have to worry about clarity and the strong coffee/malty/portery taste is very good at hiding any off flavours.
Exmoor Beast and Wickwar Station Porter are 2 good, if a little strong, beers I saw quite often in Bristol. In the States Sierra Nevada do a good porter. Don't know how available it is in the UK though.

Not rude at all, I know what you mean.Chris The Fish wrote:dont mean to be rude but that sounds a bit 'esther ranzen' to me.
have you tried it previously?
And until last night I hadnt tried it, and it tastes...well ....bleh! Needs sweetening up.
The other Bombardier they have (Burning Gold) is a really nice pint as well, although its certainly not a porter.
I do love a porter, i find it a little bit lighter than a porter. Brown porters are allowed to have some roasted barley in them an di think it works well. Very easy to make from kits too! Plenty of choc malt, a touch of roast barley and a generous amount of fuggles. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Was drinking one last night in front of the fire. All good!
Returning, as is my pedantic wont to the question:
I've only had one barley wine from a kit and you will be extraordinarily unlucky if it is like that.
Peckhams in Lenzie - I think I made the odd dash from the Briggs. Sigh. I was in the one on Central Station most often.
Sweeter and rounder, generally. Also dark beers are more forgiving or beginners little slips and of the abuse inherent in making into a kit. Hence easier than bitter to get a good result at least. Is it similar to stout but sweeter?. I've tried Barley Wine, is it like that?.
Is it as easy as bitters to make?.
