Coopers Australian Larger

Hi, advice please on first larger kit.

Got one of these delivered today, the aim is to please the larger drinkers in the family
A bit disapointed the kit appears to come with an ale yeast as it talks about fermenting at the normal ale temps.
Should I swap the yeast and use Saflager and ferment at low temp for a better result?

I now have a converted freezer so low temp ferment is no problem 8)

I intend to use either 750 g of Light Spraymalt and 250 g of sugar or 1kg or Spraymalt.

If you're after a more authentic lager, go for the Saflager if you can manage to ferment at the lower temperatures. However, if you are looking to please generic lager drinkers, why not just use the ale yeast. The quality of the beer won't be diminished, it will just be a little fruitier. If you're planning to chill it down and serve it carbonated, I bet they won't notice the difference. Certainly though, if it isn't a problem fermenting at the lower temps, go for the saflager.

Coopers lager is pretty decent. If bottling, keep in fridge for a few hours before opening time and you will have a cracking drink.
