Wherry tasting notes

Post by nicktherockstar » Sun Sep 09, 2007 10:32 am

My wherry has now become drinkable (4 weeks conditioning)

Having never tried the commercial version I was wondering how people would describe the taste, as mine gave of a really strong sulphur smell for about a week during fermenting with safale s04 which I have read can be caused by UV, and seems it was the only brew I did in a clear carboy it would make sence

at the moment its quite light, session like beer, with a very citrus tang to it on the back of the tong, very similar to a brew from my local brew pub.. not one I am mad on.. but similar never the less.

I bought the 18 pint box from Woodfordes for the very reason I wanted to see what the properly brewed beer tasted like against the home brew version (never got to try this as my Wherry was buggered)

The flavour from the purchased one was very light, and citrus in flavour, with a slight bitterness. Its not a strong beer by any standards, and to be fair wasn't the best beer I have ever had, (just my tastes) but still managed all 18 pints :D.

I was a very good session beer as you say, and would have been easy to get through lots of it with some mates at a BBQ. Having tasted the real thing I don't think I will rush back to it as a brew though.
