Quick yeast question...

Post by dan_olo » Mon Sep 10, 2007 4:59 pm

Hi,

Have just bought my first kit, a Brupaks Fixby Gold, along with some Safale yeast 'just in case'. I will rehydrate the yeast before using but won't make a proper starter because being a novice I don't have any spare spraymalt lying around.

My question is this: should I use the Safale straight away or would it be better to use the yeast in the kit and only use the Safale if I have problems? Does anyone have any experience of using the basic yeast that comes with the Brupaks Yorkshire kits?

Thanks a lot,

Dan

The yeast supplied with the kit will be fine.It is the muntons, woofordes kits that has problems with stuck fermentation's.

I'll keep the Safale until I do one of those kits then! Thanks.

I've made a couple of Brupaks kits using the supplied yeast and not had any problems with it.

The yeast is (I think) Muntons Gold which is supposed to be pretty good stuff (the Brupaks yeast was in identically marked sachets as the one that came with a Muntons Premiun Gold kit).

The only downside with the Brupaks yeast is that its a small 6g sachet, but that doesn't seem to be a major problem. Just rehydrate it for 30 mins before hand in 100ml of pre-boiled water cooled to 30°C. If it doesn't foam up at all then use the Safale.
Next Up : Something for the summer
Primary : Nothing
Secondary / Conditioning : Nothing
Drinking : Mosaic IPA
