For THE Ditch Affter years of shooting at the stout drinkers I'm starting to like the dark stuff! My one problem with the coopers is it's not quite rich enogh I make it with BKE does your medium spraymalt give it that extra creaminess? (I used to love the dodgy foreign guiness but I'm not happy to add the supposed sour beer needed! To me gone off is gone off)! (I'm about to do an experiment with EDME stout and sour beer).

SS; As I try to point out to people who haven't cracked it yet: 1. Once ye've decided to try a kit? Make that kit just as the manufacturers state on the label. At least the once. That way ye get to taste what they want ye to taste.

However, 2. Actually putting sugar in it, regardless of what the instructions say, is probably Asking for a less than could be pint. So, for sugar? Read SprayMalt. But stop there.

Get an idea of what 'should be'. Then, if ye reckon that particular kit is shit ~ for what ever reason ~ try another kit. Once ye find one that pleases ye? Brew a few, as per instructions, but using Spraymalt. Then ye should have it off pat enough to start tweaking it. Extra / different malt here. Some hops there. What ever.

But, to answer ye specific question more directly? " Beer Kit Enhancer ", as far as I'm aware, is a mixture of one thing and another. God knows what. Thus it can Only be 50% Spraymalt, if any. And there we have it. You're only adding, at most, Half the SM I do.

How are ye going to taste what Ditch tastes, if ye don't do as Ditch does?

And, yes; I find my Coopers nicely " Creamy ". It's the SM that gives it that added " Mouth Feel " and body. Anything else would just 'water it down'.

SB; Scary as it may seem? I'm educatedly guessing that the Brewmaster could be even better than the 'Coopers' I'm so enamoured of. But this is just an educated guess, at this point in time.

See, I'm figuring - without examining the link. Too rushed right now - that the BM kits are Coopers " Two Can " type kits? Either a bigger tin, or else more concentrated ME? Either way, I'm guessing there's more of what makes Coopers Stout so good, in that BM tin.

However ~ and, Repeat; I've not looked at the details! ~ I'd wonder if they just say " No extra sugar needed ". Or if they suggest sugar (so we use DSM). And if they actually add anything else to the BM kit. Some extra and different malts, maybe?

Either way, I'm hoping I might find out for myself some time. Only I got a PM from someone who said they were the Coopers uk man and, as I remember, offering to shoot me a Brewmaster to try out. I don't hoard my PM's so can't check. But, I seem to recall they said they were getting some in, some time this month? Interesting.

Word to the wise then? Those of ye with an interest; Sidle up to ye LHBS prop and mention that ye'd be interested in being in the queue for the first Coopers Brew Master kits they may be waiting on. And, if they're not? Ask them Why not 8)

A rich, dark brew displaying coffee, chocolate and licorice aromatics, roasty bitter notes with a dry finish. Thomas Coopers Irish Stout is an authentic recipe containing a blend of malted barley, roasted barley, flaked barley and hops. The pour will show a turbulent, cascading tan foaming action. Eventually, this settles into a creamy beige coloured head that rests atop the beer. Intended to be mixed with 500g Coopers Light Dry Malt and 300g Coopers Dextrose to 23 litres.

Weight - 1.7kg, Colour - 1500EBC, Bitterness - 560IBU

Dark brown colour with a persistent head resembling espresso crema, a blend of coffee, chocolate and grain aromas, exceptional mouthfeel and dark malt characteristics. The combination of malt tannins and hop bitterness results in a dry finish. Can be consumed young or cellared for a number of years with excellent results.

Weight - 1.7kg, Colour - 1800EBC, Bitterness - 710IBU

been trowling the usual suspects trying to find the "Brewmaster" kit and canny find it. i don't think it has made it over here yet. if any members catch it please let us know.

I've seen the Brewmaster IPA advertised online so hopefully the Stout is available.
I'll ask my local if they can get it in for me, if it's available they should be able to get their mitts on it.

cheers strangebrew - alot of the websites i've been looking at have the majority of the brewmaster products apart from the stout one. is that a sign?

Chops / SB; I believe I posted ~ somewhere around here ~ how I had a PM from the uk sales exec' of Coopers. As I remember, he basically told me he was in the process of bringing in Coopers " Irish Stout " (of the BrewMaster variety). I honestly don't recall exactly was said, and don't hoard PM's. But I'm pretty sure he was expecting it to kick off any time now. Middle of Januaryish.

Either way; Start making the right noises round ye LHBS. Don't let yeself be missed out when it starts arriving :wink:

just barrelled the Stout after 8 days in primary. it just felt right, 17th and all that, two months to paddys day. ditch is right, you feel coopers stout, not brew it. had a cheeky glug. mine you i've been on the wagon and my palete has not been tested, only if you take into account green tea (don't ask, detox) and it tasted bloody lovely! i cannot describe how suprising it was!

Naah. Sorry. Smacks too much of the makings of a " Best Bitter " to me.
