I appreciate what you are saying .Years ago I brewed just like you and was quite happy with the results. But since I started brewing with bottled spring water I have found it much better.Maybe its all in the mind but it sounds much nicer to make beer from water thats taken decades to filter down through the Pennine gritstone [near where I live] than water from the tap with god knows what added to it.It costs me £2.00 for ten 2ltr bottles and I use the bottles for my beer.If you wanted to get started brewing I reckon a bucket ,a beer kit some bottled water and a few other bits would cost no more than £25.00 to get you on yer way. :D

Very easy to find out exactly what's in your local water supply by going to your water provider's web-site and most give test results of the water and how hard it is.

How do you know what's in the stuff sold in the supermarkets? There's very little information on the labels.

Don't assume it's superior because it comes in a PET bottle.

The sping water I use is from the Shepley source Yorkshire.I dont know what kind of water you have looked at but there is certainly a lot of information about the composition of the water on the bottle label. For £2.00 youve got water and bottles for yer brew.Lets agree to differ on this one.You brew with yer tap water and I'll brew with me spring water. :D

Yeah I'll save £2 a brew and have no hassle buying, carrying from the supermarket and I'll continue to use my excellent hard water supply from Rutland Water that doesn't contains any nasties and very little chlorine.
