You'll find it harder to get cheaper spraymalt in Ireland.

Hi all, Im in Merthyr (someones got to come from there) lol. Only thing I have by me is wilkos and I have asked the manager why dont they stock more stuff his reply was not much demand for it, but the shelves always seem to empty each week I go there. They have a woodfordes wherry there which I fancy having a go at, I have done the coopers lager which was good and a youngs bitter also good, when I was reading the instructions in the shop it didnt say nothing about sugar and also it felt lie two cans in the box am i missing something here? If i dont need sugar then the £19 price tag is still good as the othe kits are a tenner plus the enhancer a fiver so only £4 diff really anyone tried the wherry? and if so anygood? and now to make a pratt of myself compleatly what is a "wherry" lol (im going to be so sorry i asked that) but in the words of my mentor DOH! lol

Not done a Wherry myself - a wherry is a shallow drafted sailing boat used on the Norfolk Broads - but they have some good reports - the only problem is stuck ferments. A lot of people replace the kit yeast with Safale 04 and find it works better but you probably had better expect a slower fermentation and a higher final gravity.

Oh an no need for extra sugar - except for priming at the bottling/kegging stage.

Personally I think that rather than two can kits I prefer a Coopers kit with added BrewEnhancer or Spray malt - I think this gives a better result but that's just me.

thx for the quick reply Alex, I really am undecided what to try next as Im hopeing to brew something for xmas, I got to admit the coopers Australian lager kit I was very pleased with so might stick with a coopers. The plan is to have two kegs ready for xmas one bitter one lager I have a youngs bitter on the go now (just started two days ago) but I was looking for something a bit different .

Try the Wherry, it's one of the best kit beers available. It's a 3kg all malt kit so you won't need to add any sugar or enhancer. Also don't worry about stuck ferments, that problem should have been fixed by now and if it happens they will replace the kit for you.

Another thing I noticed is its £15 not £19 as I first thought, so works out the same price really. ARgggghhh decisions lol

RRP for a Wherry is £19.49 and Wilkos have been selling this for £14.99 ever since they first stocked it 7-8 years ago.

It's a pity they don't sell other types of Woodfordes kits for this price.

Yeah I knew i saw it at £19 somewhere must have been online somewhere think I will go for it. Incidently i have been offered one of the pressure barrels with a valve fitted and a s30 gas cartridge? for £50 is this about right sounds ok to me.

Sounds slightly high by a few pounds compared to internet prices but if it's local then you're saving the postage so overall you'll probably be a few quid in.

Wilkos sell the standard budget barrel for £17.99 plus £15.99 for a S30 valve (with pin) and one bulb so £50 is way too high.
They also stock a packet of 10 C02 bulbs for £3.99.

Im just wondering whether im mixing up something here, last week my wife bought me one of those valves from wilkos and a packet of c02 bulbs (the valve came with a red adaptor with it to put the bulbs in). Now I thought those valves cannot be used with the bigger cannisters (s30) ? cos if they can then I already have the valve all I will need is the s30 gas can am I right on this?

The caps and valves Wilcos sell are for use with the little soda-syphon type CO2 bulbs. They're not compatible with S30 cannisters.

They can be if the little pin (that pierces the C02 bulb) in the valve can be taken out.

The valve and barrell were on the internet that was including the postage (£7). Im not in no rush for it im more concearned with what to brew next lol. the wherry is calling out to me on the quiet so think I,ll go with that.
