Hi KFM

Yes the island has some great biking roads and the TT course is a great challange even at legal speeds!

trouble is we have 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad weather.... lol

to be fair its often wet & windy but winters are quite mild....

When we get good weather tho' there is no better place to be on two wheels

Makes you appreciate how good McGuinness and co. are.

Yes indded!
:=P

I'm not sure whether the likes of McGuinness, Martin, Donald, Anstey et al deserve peoples respect (for their skill and courage) or deserve to be feared (for their insanity !!)

Its no mean feat to complete 6 laps of the mountain course at race speeds... thats over 200miles almost 3 times longer than a moto GP race!!

I've never completed more than 3 laps on the bounce -due to fatigue and running out of fuel!

hats off to everyone who even contemplates entering the TT or the MGP! 8)

BTW: the lager is still fermenting nicely!

Absolutely!

once you have bottled or kegged the lager simply collect the slurry using a sanitised brewers paddle and deposit in a clean and sanitised jar (old jam/honey jar is ideal)

clean your FV etc in the normal way prepare your next brew and pitch the yeast slurry...

see Chris X-1's comments in this thread (page 1) and the following link is useful if you need to 'culture up' a small amount of slurry....

The more yeast you pitch the more likely you are to avoid infection etc....

Hope this helps!

would you also pitch some other yeast say 1 s33 or s23 pack

or does the slurry yeast make it that you dont need the packet of yeast s33 or s23 etc

You don't need the packet, just the slurry

can you ever pitch too much yeast and how much is too much or will it just take moons to ferment in that sugar need to be added wich means its going to be rocket fuel???

Hi,

In theory you cant pitch too much yeast... as the yeast will only multiply to feed on the available food...

Your brew should ferment slightly faster - or there will be less lag time before fermentation starts...

However It might take a while for your beer to clear if there is too much yeast suspended in it! lol

a couple of packets of rehydrated yeast is fine for most 5 gallon brews of normal Original Gravity

Hi!

The time for bottling is upon me! lol

I'm trying to decide whether to bottle direct from the FV (has a tap and bottling stick) and prime each bottle.

or

transfer to another FV with tap (and little bottler) and bulk prime with 180g sugar.

as this is a Lager I'll be wanting plenty of that there fizz!

I have 48 sparkling 450ml Grolsch bottles at the ready...

any suggestions?

Hi!

I dont have any problems with bottling direct and priming.... Just a bit concerned about the amount of yeast that will be in the first few bottles as there is ALOT of it in the bottom of the FV...

If I transfer it before bottling the yeast will have chance to settle or at least mix evenly into the beer...

yeah even in the barrle i have out side its still got a fair bit in the bottom, can you re rack before bottling / barrling to get rid of the gunck.
iv never bottled direct 2nd brew 1st into a barrle and as thats now conditioning out side ,im scuppred so im drinking grolsh at no rate to get empties form the 2nd brew, dirty work but some ones gotta do it.
im gonna bottle in to clean sterile 750 bottles how much sugar should i prime with for that
