reading up, although apparently normal. it says that uv light casues the sulphur production

it is also ironic that this is my first brew in this clear better bottle. I have now covered it to block the light just in case, hope it isnt ruined!!!

Sulphur isn't always caused by light. It is often just a trait of a specific yeast strain. It is however a good idea to block light out from your fermenters if they're clear.

ah right, i read online thats what uv causes!

i may aswell finish the brew, the smell has gone mor or less now 3 and a half days in, so... maybe just maybe it will be ok!

At the mo im fermenting in my garage due to temps (even that got a bit warm over the weekend!), which means it is in total darkness 95% of the time and i still get sulphur smells - so its definately not only UV which produces these traits.

As SF says,

certain yeast strains produce the same type of smells (esp. lager yeasts), i also belive that high fermentation temps contributes to these pungent gasses. Its also worth noting that when sniffing your wort, try not to drop your guts as this may give false smell readings.

yes, it has stopped now but we are talking serious gass output! the whole of upstairs and the hallway had a smell. I was not a popular man!

the difference with this kit was i used safale 04, and very very treated water!

time will tell!
