:( Timely reminder, lads! As it happens; Yes, my p*xy back has actually been giving me constant and unrelenting jip since ..... god knows! (Not about to hijack and derail another bloody thread, am I? Apologies! )

No; Tonight, as it happens, I lugged two of my original kegs into the kitchen. One had dregs in it. Other nearly took my head off with the stench of something chemical and Very sanitary smelling! So I'll rinse, 'Sanitise' - again - and put that one aside for my next brew.

Then I examined my Electrim ..... Wish to god I hadn't! D'ye think a vinegar solution may clean that element?! Otherwise I'll sling it out. Only need it for a FV.

FV? I fitted a tap (Barrel type, unfortunately) to one of my new (Youngs) FV's. Fed it two gallons of new measuring jugged water and found they both agree perfectly, by their marks, that what says 2 Gallons Means 2 Gallons. Happy there then. I have an accurate gauge of water content in one FV, at least. And it's holding that 2 Gallons in like a ducks ..... Next I'll top it to the five and see. Looking good though.

Gave the dirty keg a good slooshing out with the micro fibre cloth. Didn't shift everything, but I was knackering by then. Soda Crystals job anyway. FV will have to be Soda'd too, before I can use it.

But there we are. That's, as it happens, where the King of Coopers (Stout) actually managed to drag himself to tonight. Next, I suppose, is to get the hot crystals into that brand new FV, along with the usual bits and pieces, and clean those up. Then it's pretty much a run round with the brown liquid and I'm ready to blow.

Probably sounds all incredibly long in coming to you guys, eh? My back aside, it's actually the only, real down side to living where and as I do. Takes three weeks to get most things done. The small things, that is. In Pompey? Need a fish tank heater? Walk a hundred yards and buy one. Here? Phone some prick, six miles away, then start the count down. After three weeks ye'll recognise he's a waste of time and ye start looking else where!

Thought; I'm off to see is Shane, of The Home Brew Company, Ie has any in yet. Now There's a man I can deal with! If he's got some now, I'll have them in days!

Oh, and a 'Red Cross Parcel' of a whole variety of Codeine based pain killers is due any day! My thanks to our Chris ~ and someone I know, back there * Cough! *.

Shall we start a new thread, to do this one on? :?

Poor old Ditch, being a fellow sufferer of the bad back, you have my fullest sympathy... it's no fun at all when it goes. :(

Won't the magic of Soda Crystals sort out the heater? :?

(Desperately trying to wrestle this thread back on track...) I can feel another Fish Tank heater coming to the house tomorrow..... as mentioned on the wine thread.... my 5G of Blush is working like a goodun' and in the process is stinking my house out..... it's gonna have to go into the garage. :?

 Put it down to time of 'night', Paul. And all the attendant things that come with yet another Master Session. Plus the fact that I used to use that method to clean old, steel objects ..... But, dear god, I should've seen that! #-o Thanks. I'll gee up to a major crystals shifting session. I already have visions of using the hot plate on my new stove to keep reheating the solution. Save myself a fortune in electric and give my **** time to 'get off my back'. (I'm trying not to directly refer to my **** any more, see? Or Prozac may end up on them! LMAO!)

Back on topic .... I checked Shane and the bugger hasn't sourced any 'heaters yet. No shame on the guy; I'm breaking my heart trying to find some myself!

Prozac; Work it out, man. These things have been tried, tested and trusted to keep extremely valuable fish and things alive and happy for donkeys years. Long before the advent of " Heat Belts " and Pads. Why try to reinvent the wheel? I say we'd may as well go with the flow ;)

Sod the " Topic ": Sparky? What ye've done to ye avatar cracked me up! LOL!

Yep, I used to keep fish so know how reliable and accurate these heaters are.... I've got one in my Santa Special brew which has been shifted to my garage wrapped in a couple of sleeping bags.....the wine will be following suit.... if I can suss out how to seal it through the lid.... it's the same as a king keg type top.

The deed is done..... 2nd heater bought, sterilized and installed ..... just dropped it through the bung hole reinserted the bung and airlock then wozzed a dollop of vaseline around the bung to reseal it..... airlock is bubbling away so it'd appear to be airtight.

Now my beer and wine look like two old men, wrapped up in sleeping bags and blankets.

And the wife is chuffed as the stinkin' wine is now stinkin' my garage out, rather than the house.
