The Wine Emporium in Studley you know about, there is also
Callow Hill Country Wines
Lynthurst, Brookhouse Lane, Callow Hill, Redditch, Worcestershire B97 5PP
Not been in there for a while.
The one that I use the most for grain and equipment is
Dee Jay Supplies
1694, Bristol Rd South, Longbridge, Birmingham, West Midlands B45 9TZ
Tel: 0121 453 2442.
They have a good and reasonably priced supply of kits, malt extracts and grains. £22.50 for 25kg of Optic malt crushed.
They only stock loose hops and limited yeast so I use the Wine Emporium for those.

I went in a wilkos and bought some grass seed.
OOHPS thought I was on the gardening web site.

my Wilko stocks wherry, coopers, geordie, edme, tom caxton and some others, 2 types of fermentation bin, lots of wine stuff, at least one complete starters kit, assorted ancilliary equipment, finings, sterilizers, nutrients and other chemicals.

They don't do co2 though, except 8gm sparklets.

so should I just leave the Hydrometer in the fermentor bin and check when needed.

or transfer some to the sample jar?

It's better not to leave the hydrometer in the fermenting bin, as bubbles can stick to it and make it float too high in the liquid, giving you a false reading.
