Quick update! - well I think my patience may have just paid off! I checked my wherry today with the hydrometer and I'm getting a gravity of 1.016! (5 days ago it was 1.020) and from my calculations that would give me an abv of about 5.2%!! So I'm well chuffed with that.
I tasted what was in the trial jar and its Devine! Very nice and fruity with a slight bitter aftertaste, I can definitely taste the difference on strength from my previous wherrys!

So what do you guys recon I should do? Should I be thinking about bottling now or just leave it a few more days and see if I can drop the fg a bit lower? I couldn't see any bubbles breaking the surface in the fv at all but my airlock gives a little bubble every 5 minutes or so...
Also should I turn off my brew belt now to let it cool?

Hi Monks,

Leave on the heat and give it until friday before you check the gravity, It should be finished by then.

Decided to bottle it today, I'm sure it's ready now, zero bubbles on the surface and its very clear too, besides I'm very happy with the abv I've got with this wherry, my overall aim was to brew a wherry over 5% so I've managed that!
I've heard that with the addition of priming sugar when bottling the abv rises ever so slightly- how much more is expected? Ta.

Also after I batch primed I noticed the gravity went back up to 1.020- am I right in guessing this is normal and the gravity will go lower again after secondary bottle fermentation?

Update: just tried a wherry- the carbonation is spot on with 60g of dextrose! It's the same sort of carbonation as a pint of old peculiar- which is what I was going for really so I'm well chuffed! Tastes Devine and is crystal clear! Gonna leave it now till New Year's Eve, I've left all the bottles outside in the coal shed to properly condition. Oh and I checked the final bottled gravity and its 1.014. Good times!
