Sorry for the stupid, but what's that fabric over your FV?

It's called voile, and is available from remnant/upholstery shops by the metre. It makes for a great, fine filter material, that is really easy to clean too :)

I also use a big piece of it to line my Coolbox mash tun when brewing AG beers, as it makes cleaning up the MT a doddle.

Hope this helps.

I knocked up 10L of Progressive Wherry last night.

1 x 1.5kg can of Woodfordes Wherry
100g of Dextrose
13g of 2011 Progress Whole Hops 6.80%AA - Steeped for 30mins
13g of 2011 Progress Whole Hops 6.80%AA - Dry Hop (Blitzed & once primary is over)
Windsor Yeast @18C
OG 1.044

Hopefully I'll end up with a fruity bitter for the new year

Cheers

I've checked the gravity today on day 9, and it was sitting at 1.014. The brew looks quite lifeless, so I've added the blitzed Progress dry hops.

This is the first time that I've tried using blitzed hops for dry hopping, but they didn't put up much of a fight in the hand blender!

Just checked the gravity again on day 14, and it's still 1.014 and clearing nicely.

Dunno where the myth about Windsor being a bugger to clear comes from? I've never found it troublesome.

What to do with the last can of Wherry??

Hi Tony

I had a bottle last week, and it certainly isn't quite ready yet as it was still a bit bitter.

My EKG Wherry really stood out after 3-4 months in the bottle, so I'm assuming the same for this brew TBH.

I'll probably leave it another month or so before trying another.

Cheers

I think I'll nip to our LHBS tommorrow and see what Hops they have. My last one never cleared beyond the piccie with your Hydrometer but tastes fine.

This time I am brewing with 1 can from the Woodfordes Admirals Reserve (32pt) kit. I will be brewing the other can as standard, because I tasted my mates brew a few weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. But this brew is being brewed nearer to the Woodfordes Headcracker (24pt) kit.

Hopefully this brew will be coming good around Xmas/New Year [-o<

Admirals Cracker

7L Brewlength
1 x 1.5kg Can of Woodfordes Admirals Reserve
6g of EKG Pellets 5.90%AA boiled in the rinsed wort from the can for 10mins
7g of Coopers Ale Yeast
OG 1.060
Fermenting in the cupboard under the stairs between 21- 22C

I tried a bottle of my Admirals Cracker last night after a little over 4 months in the bottle.

Head retention was crap, but clarity, body and the low level of carbonation was all good.

The taste was quite complex. Fruity, herbal and slightly spicy. The alcoholic warmth is pleasing and the bitterness is robust, but not too overpowering :)

Hopefully it will slowly improve even more over time, but it is certainly drinkable now as is.

I still plan to brew the other tin of Admirals Reserve to 9 litres as standard with the kit yeast, and may even add half of the hop powder sachet :-k

Loving the colour!

Hello MB,
The Beer looks Good! Pity about the head. Try the syringe trick, see if that works. I Used the syringe on a pint of `Ditch`s Stout` the other night, totally flat pint (I don`t Batch Prime) and I had a 6mm Head right to the bottom of the glass!

Thank you

Drop Milestone an email to be 100% sure.

OK thank you, i will send them a email. Any advice on dry-hopping please? I was planning on putting into a hop bag with a couple of marbles to weigh it down, on the 2nd Fermentation. Does this sound OK?

Thank you.
