Yeast Nutrient

Post by macleanb » Fri Jan 25, 2008 7:36 pm

Hi Guys

I just bought some yeast nutrient, as it seems to be a good idea to add "some". However the tub says 1tsp per gallon, and most refrences I have seen here sem to say half or one teaspoon per 5 gallon batch. Thats a big difference - any wisdom for me?

cheers & ttfn

Just out of interest are wine yeast nutrient and beer yeast nutrient the same thing? IIRC isn't it all just diammonium phosphate ?

A cursory google seems to suggest that wine nutrient has sulphur containing compounds in and the beer nutrients didn't although don't quote me on that

Where's Steve Flack when you need him  ?

A good question Daab - and its wine nutrient ! I am wondering how the 5 tspns I added to my stuck Sherwoods Forest bitter will affect the flavour?
