It's all gone Pete Tong

Hi all!

I'm on brew 4 and I was on a roll.

I started off a John Bull Nut Brown Ale + BKE last Friday and after 2 days at 18C there was little activity. I drew off some wort, diluted it, microwaved it and cooled it before adding a 6g packet of Muntons Gold brewing yeast. I left it for a few hours and pitched it.

Still little activity although theres a sulphurous smell. No massive head like my last brews! Any clues/tips?

Also the cap on my 2nd S30 valved budget barrel cap has split over the length of about an inch and a half. Anyone had this before? Can you screw these things on too tightly? Need a new cap anyway.

Cheers, Stuart

I've had 3 caps split after first use, not so much over tightning but a flaw in the caps, the caps are 2 parts joined together, ring with thread and then top part, mine have seperated along the joint about 1 ". repaired with soldering iron.

The replacement caps with co2 brass valves in my local brew shop and Wilkos are £6.50+ each, if you get them for 75p, buy as many as you can and sell them on ebay, this time next year you'll be a millionare (ha ha)
