Stonewall Bitter

Hi Yall!

Just about to start this kit off from the York Brewery.

The question I have at this stage is regarding the hops. My previous experience has been with a brupak kit where the hops have come in a 'teabag'. The stone wall kit has hop pellets like this.

The instructions, if I've read them right say to add the hops to the FV first then add about 3.5 pints of boiling water. Should I expect this to disolve the hops or just extract flavour leaving the hops in the brew? if the latter, do i leave them in the FV or remove them? and if so after how long?

Many thanks for the help.

Dave.

PS. I am planning to remove the hops from the plastic bag.... lol!!

this is a nice beer, and if you are interested the York Brewery do a very good tour if you drop in and see them.

Thanks Daab,

I think i'll give that a go.

I usually clean with Ritchie Setalising Powder... will this be sifficient for the seive or should I use something else too?

Just to clarify... do you mean put then in a pan and boil for 15mins OR pour boiling water on and leave for 15mins.... (no longer boiling.... just like makind a cup of tea).

I would boil them in a mixture of the extract and water rather than just plain water.

thanks again Daab.....

Just another thought.... would I get the same effect from wrapping the hops in a muslin cloth or something...... I'm realising what a great feature those 'brupaks teabags' really are!
