Been thinking a bit about kits...

Could you get a good two can all malt kit. Pour it in your boiler with whatever litres it says of boiling water. Top it up to the 30 or 25 ltr mark with cold water and boil for an hour with standard-ish hop additions? Or even late hop with a shorter boil?

What do you think? :-k

Isnt the problem that kits are already hopped, so by boiling again you drive off any aroma (but I guess still have the bittering)? So your hop balance could be problematatic?

I'm not thinking i can get this right first time. Just wondering if it's worth having a try.

With a few kits I have either made 15 minute "hop tea" or dry hopped to get a bit more fresh hop flavour, but I've never tried a full boil (period - my first boil is this weekend!) Are you thinking you can get more malt per buck from a kit - i.e. Why do you want to do this - just an experiment (I'd be interested in your results!)

Maybe best just to buy cans of LME that arent hopped at all and add your own hops. As JP points out thats exactly what extract brewing is.

So it is. Well i never. I should have had a look at the extract section on the forum.

I might have a go at this extract brewing. It looks quite quick and easy. 8)
