How soon is too soon?

Post by flything » Tue Aug 22, 2006 4:23 pm

I've got a Sherwood IPA on day 7 in the primary fermentor.

Last night the SG was 1012 so its looking good to be finished or nearly finished.

I'm going away next week, spending a week in a cottage in North Wales with 15 friends, I'm now starting to think...

If I got some finings and racked the beer into the King Keg say on Friday, would I ruin it or could it be ready to drink by say Wednesday next week?

Any tips? Or should I forget it?

The reason I say Wednesday is that I'm already taking a Polypin of Hanby Ales Rainbow Chaser which from last years experience was gone by Tuesday.

With some bottle beer I made and a Gallon of Turbo Cider I will be taking circa 100 pints with me, does this sound enough? :D

The beer would be drinkable, but it may taste slightly yeasty and wouldn't be very clear. Personally I would leave it until you get back from your trip, but if you really feel the need then take it with you.

If when you get there and pour a pint off you find it undrinkable then just bring it back and let it mature...

I think you're right, its not worth wasting a load of beer in some kind of "how many pints can you bring arms race".

I racked it into the secondary and saved two litres for an santised PET bottle, couple of drops of finings in there and, well we'll see...
