Geordie bitter

Post by BeerMan » Fri Mar 14, 2008 9:28 pm

Hi all

I'm brewing my Geordie bitter using half brewing sugar and half spraymalt (I've always used household sugar till now) and I've not had a problem getting down to the specified gravity with all my previous brews but this has stopped at 1.011 and it should go down to 1.005. Would the spraymalt have any effect on the final gravity??
I'm going to try stirring the sediment to restart it but is it best to use a better yeast than the one supplied in the kits?

Cheers

I would expect it to end up a little lower than that for half and half, perhaps 1.009 or so. Try giving it a (very) gentle stir to rouse the yeast up, hopefully you'll get it down another couple of points.

If it doesn't come down any further, I wouldn't worry too much, it's near enough. Just make sure it's finished before kegging/bottling.

Hi
I'm trying a geordie bitter to, but i've used 700g od Dme and 300g of sugar, started it today so i'm reckoning 7 days, should this make a good pint or should i have used more sugar?

I also have just done a Geordie bitter kit earlier on tonight. I went for the Geordie kit enhancer with mine and am gonna leave it for 10 days before barreling. OG was 1038.

I've done a couple of the Geordie lager kits and they turned out really nice so fingers crossed for the bitter.

Recently finished a Geordie Kit with Enhancer, the FG was about 1.010 and that's good enough for me as it's only a cheap kit and not worth worrying about
