Wherry Bad Bottle?

Post by Duncndisorderly » Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:32 pm

I opened a bottle of my wherry which i bottled about 4 weeks ago and it has an almost rubbery aftertaste if that makes sense

I should explain i only bottled a dozen bottles, i kegged the rest and it has been fine, infact i only opened the bottle because all that was in the keg is now gone so i reckon it must be something i did on bottling.

I didnt bottle immediately from the FV, i barrled everything to begin with then after 2 weeks i ran the 12 bottles into a steriled jug and the transfered into the bottles which i primed first

Is it possible that this is where it went to pot?

could be a bit of oxidation happening there. can happen if you don't syphon into bottles and the beer is poured and "sloshed" about.

i normally leave my wherry for 6 weeks before touching. i did have a taster last week, and it didn't taste right at first. at the end though it tasted fine. i think that was down to temperature. where i keep my barrel is very cold and i should have brought the barrel in and got it up to about 13'c.

I still have some of this brew unopened in bottles, i think im gonna stash it away for a few months and try in again. if it still tastes bad i'll have several other brews up and running by then to console myself with and if on the other hand its tastes fine, well thats just WIN all over :D
