Hello everyone.
I'm in the middle of my first attempt at brewing in one of them there Young's Kingkeg toptap barrels, and after the brew had been barrelled for an uneventful week, I visited the spare bedroom for my daily impatient 'see if owt's happening' to find a big brown puddle surrounding the barrel and the fine brewery smell that I'd promised Mrs Stuntman wouldn't fill the house, filling the house.
I hid the formerly pale blue bath towel in the garden and fiddled with the rubber band that reckons to be a 'pressure release system' and happily the next two weeks have passed without incident.
I decided this weekend to have a try of the beer - Woodforde's Wherry, but on opening the tap, it seems pretty reluctant to leave the comfort of the barrel, so I put one of the gas cylinders supplied on and enjoyed three or four halves of lovely, albeit slightly cloudy brown ale, retaining its head and no foul smells, tasting of neither wee nor wine.
Success I think, but by the next morning - I attempted to show off my prowess, purely demonstration purposes I know you'll understand, and the gas has gone again.
There is clearly a leak in the barrel and my question is where is it likely to be and what, if anything, can I do to stop it? That's two gas cylinders and three or so pints of ale wasted (the ones on the carpet, not the tasters).
Is it a faulty barrel or is there a remedy?
Leaky barrel
Never had a KK but had leaks when I first got my Beersphere. One came from the tap - not tightened sufficiently. Only way I could remedy this was to wash my arm and dunk it in the beer and tighten the nut. It worked and beer appeared not to be affected.
I also had a leak from the valve where you put the gas in. Tighteneing the valve didn't help either, I had to replace the o-ring underneath the cap.
If your leaking beer as well as gas, I reckon it could be the tap.

Cheers for that Mr Buzz, if I'd of used some of the patience I'm trying to develop, I could've looked further into the forums and seen that I'm not the only one its happened to.
I'll get Mrs S to tighten it for me then perhaps she'll stop telling me I've done it wrong. Unlike me, she does tend to be my harshest critic. And it was an old towel.
