Hi all...my first brew is in the kegged and in the shed... now the wait !!!
I must have broken every rule in the book with my first brew.. nothing sanitized...only used half the kit (sherwoods tradional ale) only using one can for 2.5 gals... just bunged the yeast in.. not stired or sloshed. In other words I was in too much of a hurry to get done. Now I have read many posts the next one will be more organised and correctly processed.
I had a taste two days after the brew had been transferred to the keg and I was amazed that it not only tasted like beer but was pretty good !!!
Now comes the wait.... I now intend to purchase another Keg and a beer kit so I would welcome any suggestions as to what my next brew should or could be. Due to home circumstances I must restrict myself to just cans as I do not have the space to boil large quantities of hops etc..
Any ideas ??? Frederick
Patience is a virtue
I think most of us remember fondly that first brew
and some of the daft things done through inexperience
my dad has been brewing kits for decades and has never sanitised anything
(well he did once and killed a brew) never had an infection..me, I sanitise everything and have still had infection problems
sanitising is always best but there are those who get away without it.
as for brews I just go for the cheapest
, but I am experimenting a bit with cheap kits as members here have suggested that they can be improved a fair bit.
best of luck with whatever you choose

Hi all,
i'm on my 1st brew and i must admit i didn't bother too much about serilization (quick slosh round) as most of my equipment was new, next brew though i will be sterilizing EVERYTHING!!! ( don't want 40 pints of un-drinkable brown goo
)
thanks for the tip about the brass on the keg lids didn't know it could be cleaned like that

you can't be too carefull with sanitising, I do everything and keep the sink full to re wash anything I so much as breath near.
I have no idea how my old man gets away with it
but it certainly isn't a good model to follow.
I have just started to use Iodophor so next time he visits I will show him how simple it is- you never know he may change his ways especialy if I have plenty of quality beer to show for it
