2 things to check out for if its doing this. How long has it been in there for ?

1) The brew might not have finished fermenting fully and a build up of pressure might be causing it to leak. The valve in the cap should release to much pressure but you can unscrew the lid slightly for a very short amount of time to vent some pressure. I have had a faulty valve before in a lid.

2) Is the tap tight enough? You could screw it in further and see how it goes.

I presume its a budget barrel ? the taps do leak but can be replaced with a drum tap which fits much better. In the meantime though I think you can carefully move it to the other barrel but you are best off purging the air out of it with a shot of Co2 once youve moved it. if its got a pressure release valve it will blow the air out leaving the Co2 to protect your beer, if not shoot some Co2 in then release the top cap very slowly until a bit of gas escapes. it should still prime as its only been 24hrs and the Co2 will help. or do as John suggests first and try tightening the tap :D

You might be lucky and find the leak stops. My budget barrel tap leaked a bit but after a couple of days it stopped. I assumed this was because the beer got sticky enough and sealed itself up.

Caught my attention. Are ye basicaly saying whip out the side lever type taps and replace with the top screw types?

I'm asking this off the cuff. I haven't yet shot off to check what either type's called or how they fit. Just something I'd like to log for future referance :)

Thanks.
