Cooper's Dark

Post by PMH0810 » Tue May 20, 2008 7:07 pm

After the raging success that was Cooper's Bavarian Pilsner, I started their Dark Ale Sunday.

40 pint kit brewed to 32 pints with 500g medium spraymalt and 500g brewer's sugar (all I had in).

OG was a disappointing 1.048 - expected higher (due to the short brewlength).

Came home today and there was a beard blown out of my FV and the lid which had previously been fixed for 80% of it's seal was floating free!

Can it be the weather? Is the yeast (used the supplied) particularly enthusiastic?

Gravity reading taken yesterday afternoon returned a healthy 1.012 so it looks like fermentation is nigh-on done. Will check again tonight and if there's no further movement will bottle Sunday.

Coopers are fast proving a budget favourite with me - however, had a Milestone last night and there's no comparison!

Yeah I like the Coopers kits too.

Finished my Mexican lager and just bought another one to get started may be next week.

Really need to try out another of their lager, so the Pilsner was good then?

The pilsner was one of my greatest attempts - everyone who tried it loved it!

Two drawbacks ; only 40 pints in a batch and a little light on flavour. Nothing that can't be fixed by dry-hopping the next batch!
