Geordie Lager

Post by 21GoodLife » Sun Jun 15, 2008 10:37 pm

Hi guys

Quick few questions, I appear to have created something a bit different to what I intended - I think!

I bought 3 cheapy Geordie kits from Wilkos a bit back, as they were on discount. I first put together Geordie Mild, using beerkit enhancer and then kegged it on about day 10. It's was a little watery tasting at first, but it does appear to be improving, and I do quite like it, being a native mild drinker.

However, I put the Geordie lager together straight after it, but due to being away with work, and being on holiday, I didn't manage to pop down to Wilkos to get a keg or some bottles for it. So, the result is that it has been sat there for almost 4 weeks. It is also made with beerkit enhancer, and I popped a satchet of finings in there on day 8 once the gravity stuck.

I've kegged it just today, but the wort smelled not quite like the lager I expected. It smelled and tasted very similar to a German Weiss beer. It's cloudy like it too. It was also a little watery too, as was the mild.

So, have I ballsed it up? Has anyone left a brew in the wort too long, and what were your results? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I'll probably sup it anyhow :)

Tim

Hi mate

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. I've just been doing a bit more reading about lager, and I agree that I need to bottle it.

Will there be a problem allowing secondary fermentation for a week in the keg, and then transfer to bottles after - as it's already kegged, and I don't have the bottles yet?

Thanks again.

Tim
