What sugar / spray malt / DME to use

Post by verno » Fri Aug 08, 2008 1:37 pm

I am a newby who has just bought some equipment and kit. I am about to start a Castlemaine gold kit and it says to use standard granulated sugar.

However doing a bit of research I have read about DME and spraymalts. I don't have any of this and want to start tonight. Does it matter if I use granulated sugar, or should I wait to be able to get some spraymalt or DME?

Also should I use this instead of normal sugar at the bottling stage?

Thanks

If you don't mind waiting, you'll get better results with spraymalt or malt extract.

However, the kits are designed to be made up wth sugar or glucose, so it's not going to kill you either. For what it's worth, if your local Wilko has homebrew kit, they often have a bag or two of beer kit enhancer which contains dry malt extract and glucose.
