Hi everyone.

I've just bought a home brewing kit (It's the Youngs larger starter kit) but have notice my fermenting tub does not have an air lock. Is this safe or have I got a larger bomb in the making? :?

Your lager will not explode! It might, however, blow the lid off all over.
Do you like lager coloured ceilings and walls? :D

I would suggest you pop the lid off, and rest it on top. It's only really there to keep flies/children/cats from getting in there.

Thank you for your quick response. I will go and take the lid off now. The wife would kill me if we ended up having larger coloured ceilings

I tend to snap on the lid all the way round, then unsnap a tiny little to allow for pressure release. This way, the very minimum of outside air will be exposed to the wort through diffusion, thereby minimizing the risk of infection.

Thanks Stoutman This is actually what I did. I thought it's the best way to stop the cats from pushing the lid fully off.

Thanks again for your comments and I'll let you know how the first brew gets on :?
