Finings or not

Post by mchansen » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:03 pm

Hi

On to my second brew, the first one (Milestone IPA) whent just after the book, the second also a Milestone kit (Olde Home Wrecker) fermented out within 48 hours so I gave it a gentel stir to see if there was any more in it, but there wasn't.
I am about to keg it on Sunday and it is wery cloudy, so do I give it a bit of fining or not. :?:

wow you don't hang about fella,i usually leave mine in the fermenter about 10 days thanks to Daab for that one,it sorts loads out,for me i never use finings as i hate the stuff and am not worried about cloudy beer but it's a personnel choice,if you think it's finished fermenting and wish that path then go for it.

My first two brews were cloudy until, I followed the advice of those in the know i.e ferment for 7 days, drop the temp below the yeast operating temp & at the sametime add some finnings (Beerbrite) in my case. Leave a further 3 days & keg, carbonate & enjoy.

Did this on my Pride of Yorkshire IPA & is was almost crystal when I keg'd it, which was in contrast to my Lions pride, which was like pea soup.

Also, I only use Safe04 on ale/bitter/IPA etc as it gives a nice sedement i.e in the case of the above, the sedement literally came out in one lump.

Darren.

Hi Bongo

I'm quiet happy to leave it an other couple of days, but it's just that the first brew was a lot brighter at the same stage, and I think it's down to the stir I gave it.
Also I dont mind a cloudy beer but it don't look as good.

Hi Ulrich
Well as i have found out so far no two beers ferment the same it's a living thing and i find it's hard to predict so if it was me i would leave it a few more days,it will do it no harm but that is up to you let us know how it goes.
