No CO2 Injector for Basic Keg ~ Help?

This is just taking the f*cking piss!!!

Ok; I've just run my Wherry through the tube and into my Basic Barrel. Brought it in here, where it probably reaches a few more degrees than the kitchen, to settle out. Then happily fetched my little Sparklet bulb holder and a bulb, intending to give it that protective blast.

Guess what? Mine's an S30 valve. Not an " S30 with Steel Pin " ! I can't get the CO2 in there.

So; Do I leave it alone for a while, then pour the lot down the sink, like I should've done a month ago?

Do I waste a 500g bag of Spray Malt, pouring that in there.

What?

I have no suger in the place. Don't use it. Only a jar of honey and a spoonful of Black Strap Mollasses, which I want for my tea. At least I can make tea!

You could nip out to the shop tomorrow and grab some sugar mate ! no need to ditch the brew seeing as its finished its fermentation. Keep the sugar for priming it will last if you put it in an air tight container.

When you do have the sugar put 100 grams in 200ml or boiling water to disolve cool it to the same sort of temp as the brew and the bung that in . I presume you have some of the yeat saved to drop a little of that in as well i usually dump a tablespoon worth in to help with the co2 creation.

Used to have an S30, Jim. (Or what ever they were called in those days. Green bomb) Just screwed it straight onto my RotaKeg till all hell let loose. Then unscrewed it again and put it aside till next time.

Only, I was doing my homework last night. The place I habitually use now only offers Widget World stuff. Now, whilst I must say I like the ideas of taps and gauges ~ so much more advanced than trying to twist ye wrist and guess ~ I was also somewhat mortified to read what " Horden Hillbilly " had to say, at the bottom of this Thread Here

What it boils down to is that, had I 'rushed out' and bought a WW kit? I'd have found myself getting no gas in through my S30 and would be trying to find those other valve rubbers. Imagine how ecstatic I'd have been?

So, I'm figuring I'd best try one of the other couple of suppliers. See if I can buy an actual S30 bottle. I take it I can then get back to just screwing it on for a burst and taking it off again? No drama with tight valves?

Meanwhile, I can't " nip " anywhere. I'm planning to go into town tomorrow though. Guess I'd might as well get a bag of sugar and render this gnats piss wholly untouchable. then throw it down the sink. Should have just opened the cans, threw Them down the sink, and got on with my second Coopers

Ditch give it a go you never know your luck it may salvage, just don't sit there and drink the bugger if it doesn't, life is too short for shite beer.

I have a Hambleton Bard 'bomb' on its way to me right now! As I recall, that's what I had before.

Prolix; I don't see me drinking this stuff at all, mate. It's just been a test bed for me. I'm seeing it through even this far, just so I can iron out any further problems with messing with it.

But I'll never knowingly want to buy Muntons again. Coopers, Brupak and how about Youngs? I hear Tom Caxton is going? Shame. Who makes John Bull, I wonder? We could do with a List Thread on this score.

The muntons one can kits are all fine, in my experience. The two can kits are a bit dodgy, but the single cans are fine, especially if you make up with beer kit enhancer or malt extract.

You don't need to tip it away. Either use 50 grams of spraymalt dissolved in some warm water and boiled a bit, or 50 grams honey the same.
That will provide enough sugar to pressurise your keg and carbonate.

Then all you have to do is stop your freezing middle-of-nowhere house from freezing your brew.

Max; I have it sitting right here beside me now. Keg's sealed up and I'm not about to open it. Gas should be with me on wednesday so it doesn't seem worth messing with it. Besides which, I may not be in town till wednesday at the earliest. Can't really do a lot. either way, till then, look. It's not a problem.

I simply refuse to be fazed by this ridiculous series of set backs because I know I made perfectly good beer before. Granted, I had a LHBS five minutes away and could Ask before I bought. See? I'd have said, " And that keg and a box of sparklet bulbs and a holder, please. " And John would've said; " Ah. If ye want to use bulbs, ye need This type of valve. " Boosh!

Muntons one cans? Terrific. And I have their damn Porter sat out there. Two can, bettcha.
