Second Dogbolter brew - this time lessons learned (Cheers St. DaaB).

Pitched it Wednesday before last and it still has a pretty good bubbly-crust. 9 days of fermenting and still going strong?

Is this normal/okay? Brewcupboard is curently averaging 18 deg C

It's certainly not a sign of a problem - what yeast did you use?

Whichever it was that gets included with the kit (oh, and it got a dose of nutrient too) - excuse my ignorance but isn't it Gervin?

I'm not up on kit yeasts, really. 9 days at 18C seems reasonable to me - most of my brews get left a fortnight in the fermenter. Cool and slow is good for flavour (unless you like a lot of fruitiness, which I don't).

Have you checked the gravity?

Not yet, I tend to wait until it looks flat. Kicked it off at 1.060 so am hoping for an FG of 1.012ish and not the stuck at 1.018 like last time.

Dog was the first beer I got vomitingly drunk on and it holds a very dear place in my heart!

As it said on the tin (including the 5 minute boil).

Tin of Dogbolter
1kg of unbleached tate & lyle (it's what SWMBO had in)
1/4 tsp yeast vit
Beaten to within an inch of it's life (or, if you'd prefer, "conscientiously aerated")

And then put in an 18 deg C (average) brewcupboard.

Finally stopped and was bottled last night. Just kit, sugar and yeast nutrient but FG was approx 1.008? Only brews I've had fall below 1.011 unassisted (no beer enzyme) were TC?
