Have you tried Turbo CIder? Quite popular on this site, it seems. I think I might give it a go.

I found both John Bull and Samson cider kits to be very good.

I'd recommend either making them short to get maximum flavour (and alcohol!) or trying a THC.

just drinking a pint of John Bull THC (turbo hybrid cider) where you replace additional sugars with apple juice (10/11 litres) and prime with apple juice to enhance the apple flavour.

Mine is gorgeous, i have made THC of Youngs and John Bull and would recommend the BUll while yoyu can still get it : }

mine was 11 litres of apple juice and made up to 40 pints with water, it has come out at 5.3%.

If you want it stronger add less water overall or more apple juice before you top it up with water. It is a nice drink though.

My youngs THC had 10 litres of Apple Juice and came out 5.1%

Hi young brewer have you tried Finlandia Cider kits? Its a nice change as its a pear and apple cider.. went down very well at a recent BBQ I had... so much so all 40 pints went out of my keg!!!
Also have tried a Brewmaster kit, which was a nice tipple ..
Then theres the TC route.....

Anyone tried the Magnum cider kits from Hambleton Bard?

You can get a standard Apple cider, and two more varieties are being released soon, Apple & Pear and Apple & Elderflower...

I've done the Magnum Apple Cider kit today. I made a mistake though, pitched yeast in and forgot to test Original Gravity

I did the kit with 1.3KG of brewing sugar and made up to 4 gals 32 pints instead of the stated 5 gal 40 pints.

Does anyone know what the gravity would have been?

Hope this will be ok.

Regards

Graham :)

GTATTY, if you test today then give it a couple of days to see how much it has dropped then test the FG you should be able to work backwards and give a good guess at much it might have started at.
For example if it is 1040 today in 2 days 1030 and another 4 days later 1010 then its roughly dropping 5 points a day therefore a good guess at saying an SG of 1045. I doubt that it will be a linear drop in gravity during ferment but it'll be a good guess anyway.

Youngbrew shame about the infection
