I am doing the pilsner and I have the lager waiting in the wings.

I must say, the only time I got a head in my FV was when my airlock would let bubbles out and effectively sealed the system. Once I let the gas out, the head subsided?

Try a stout. Some of those make the fermenter resemble something from the Quatermass Experiment...

I've just put the Coopers Dark Ale on.

500g of Dark Spraymalt
600g of brewing sugar
25g of goldings

Made up to 21 litres
Coopers yeast.

OG 1050

It's headed up nicely.

Hey Marts,

How is that Coopers Dark Ale going down? My brother has ordered a tin of it today and it sounded pretty intriguing. Wondering what kind of a drink you got out of it?

Hi youngbrewer
I'm well into the Coopers ozzy lager thing. Ive got the 3rd one fermenting now. Blimmin stuffs gone before the 3 weeks ready date #-o . The 2nd batch cleared and tasted great after just 7 days. All i do is "as it says on the tin" and you can't go wrong.
Whats the "enhancer" you use. I just stick with the 1KG of youngs brewing sugar. Iv'e up'd the sugar on the batch iv'e got brewing now to 1.25KG just to see if i can get that extra bit of kick to it.
The first kit did as you describe --- nearly blew the top off the FV. The last 2 kits seem to have calmed down more but have a sharp smell to them.
A friend of mine is trying the 'Canadian Blonde lage ' -- Interesting to see how that compares to the Ozzy lager.

It's good, but a bit young yet. The Goldings hops I added are very in your face. I've tucked most of it away for a few months to mellow out a bit and am testing about one bottle a fortnight to see how its progressing.

jus sampling my 1st pint of Coopers Lager, its only been in bottles a week but i wanted to see how it was doing. Its pretty sweet to taste, is this due to

a) me using normal sugar instead of spray malt or other sugars
b) it being too young
c) just the way its supposed to taste?

cheers
andy

Probally due to the fact its quite young Andy, it hasn't had a chance to mellow out. :)
