John Bull Masterclass Executive Bitter in my ninkynonk (okay, beersphere) has a slight smell of (and taste undertones) of a certain beef extract drink.
Any clues?
Bovril?
Re: Bovril?
Could be yeast autolysis? I've had this a number of times and I'm told it's down to leaving the beer too long in the primary fermenter... people usually say Marmite rather than Bovril though...
Re: Bovril?
Sorry, definitely Bovril; maybe my tastebuds could get it wrong but not SWMBO!
I had to rescue this brew from a faulty keg and was told to re yeast and re prime in the transferred keg to recondition so I can accept/expect that off flavours will develop; just have to drink it quick!
Normally I ferment in a plastic fv and then move directly to keg/bottle for secondary after 7-10 days, taking great care to leave the yeastcake in the fv. Is this, my normal practice, leaving me open to autolysis too?
