What lager kit?

Post by NWC » Wed Oct 15, 2008 6:50 pm

Looking to brew my first lager soon - but am aware of the many pitfalls in getting this right.
Have brewed about 5 kits, mainly woodfords, that have been mostly succesful.
Looking for an easy brew kit that will give a strong (ish) lager with an export lager taste.
Must work well with a budget keg.
Any suggestions??
Cheers :)

If you want something relatively easy to do, I would go for one of the premium two-can kits, and in particular one with the hop bags for steeping. You could try the Brupaks Pride of Yorkshire 'Special Lager'... I haven't done this one myself, but it seems to be well liked and includes a hop teabag.

If you are feeling more adventurous, you could go for a Cooper's kit and add spraymalt and hops. Have a search in the kit section for lager ideas, there are many great threads with lots of info.

One thing I would add is that budget kegs are not really ideal for lagers, you can't get the same level of carbonation. Cornelius kegs work well with forced carbonation, or alternatively bottles.
