Made this kit up on Wednesday. For yeast I used a Wyeast Scottish split I had in the fridge (and before anyone says anything I know this yeast isn't exactly ideal for this type of beer - it's better suited to strong stouts - but hey, it was sitting there), took it out on Sunday evening, plenty of time to wake up. I didn't start this starter as I should have done, instead I just dropped half a teaspoon of yeast nutrient into the bottle, good shake, and left it for a couple of hours. Not surprisingly twenty four hours after adding to the brew, nowt. So I just decided to put in the supplied yeast, sprinkled on top as opposed to stirred in because I'm lazy.
Question is, has anyone done this kit before with the supplied yeast, and was it any good?
Oh yes FWIW I made this with 500g Dark DME and 500g Medium DME, 22 litres, with a teaspoon of yeast food and heading compound chucked in for good measure. OG1042. Hopefully should be a nice malty brew.
